Youth Service

This past January 15 Morgantown HI-Y students spent time making crafts with the Sundale Nursing Home residents. Eight of the members also played games with the Sundale Nursing Home residents.

Oak Hill HI-Y hosted a “Miss Gorgeous Grandma” Pageant in February. The pageant consisted of three portions ( Formal attire, Talent, and question and answer).  Prizes were awarded to the winning
grandmothers. Prizes were provided by The resort at Glade Springs of Daniels, Curves of Oak Hill, Wisteria's gifts of Fayetteville, Doves Outlet Village of Oak Hill, and Twisted Scissors Salon of Oak Hill. Grandmothers were judged by a panel of local "celebrities”. All proceeds went to benefit the Oak Hill High School Youth in Government program.

An all-night event, the Greenfield McClain Cardboard City is an annual project of both YLA groups to raise awareness and money for homeless issues. This year 22 students raised nearly $1,000 and slept in their cardboard structures in near freezing temperatures. View [ More Pictures ].

Please send us information and pictures of your service projects so we can include mention in the Youth Leadership News.
