HORSESHOE Recreation Area For Reservations call 1-877-444-6777 2013 Rec Area Dates: |
Family Camping
is available at both the Horseshoe Recreation Area in West Virginia and at Cave Lake in Ohio. Enjoy the beauty and peace of the Horseshoe Recreation Area as your own mountain resort! Small enough to offer a friendly family atmosphere, the Horseshoe Recreation Area has 21 campsites. 13 sites (#1 - #13) are in the open, and remaining sites are in a wooded area. Camp sites #7 through #12 can be reserved at least four days prior to arrival and reservations can be made up to 240 days in advance. All other sites are on a first come, first serve basis. A large and a small pavilion are also available by advance rental for reunions, special occasions, and picnics. Pavilion reservations must be made at least 5 days prior to arrival and can be made up to 360 days in advance. The campground contains flush toilets, public telephone, and city water. Main Loop A, camp sites 1-13, have electric hook-ups. Back Loop B is non-electric. Campsites have tables, tent pads, fire rings, parking spurs and lantern posts. The overflow camping area is suitable for tent camping only and has tables and fire rings. While only three to four hours from Washington, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Charleston, Horseshoe is a "world away" from the rush and pressures of our modern society. The Horseshoe Recreation Area is owned by the United States Forest Service and operated by the Ohio-West Virginia Youth Leadership Association's Horseshoe Leaderchip Center. Reservations are made through the Forest Service's National Recreation Reservation Service by calling toll free 1-877-444-6777 or by visiting Recreation.gov. Campsites are $20 per night in the Main Loop-A and $15 per night in Back Loop-B. Rental of the large picnic pavilion is $85.00 and $20.00 for the small pavilion. Please review our Rec Area Rules. Cave Lake is a place of rare natural beauty in Ohio's Appalachian region and its family camping is fun for all ages. Camping is available on a long-term basis ONLY (1 month minimum) and our camping season is April 1 thru October 30. Our 700 acres of forested property offer approximately 175 spacious trailer sites for your summer camping experience. Sites have water and electric hookup. We do not provide septic service at your camp site, but we do have a dumping station for your use at no additional charge. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Shower and restroom facilities are centrally located. If you have a large group, try one of our Shelter Houses for your next reunion or group outing. We have two shelters, one 30’ by 60’ accommodating about 200 persons and the other about 27’ by 45’ accommodating about 150 persons. They are conveniently located near activities such as basketball, tether ball, horseshoes, volleyball, and a ball field. Each is surrounded by beautiful trees providing ample shade and each has a large charcoal grill. We do not allow boats with gas-powered motors. Your personal canoe or boat (trolling motor only) can be used on the lake for a daily fee. Long-term campers must purchase an annual season boat permit to have their boat on the property for use on the lake. Four sleeping cabins are available for rent by guests of our season campers. All facilities are for the use of our registered guests only. The Lakefront Room is available for rent. It has kitchen facilities and seating area for approximately 30 people. Our group camping area is ideal for scouts, church groups, or organizations who enjoy tent camping on a rolling wooded area with an open area for group activities. Cook on an open fire and enjoy the beauty of nature. You’ll be just a few feet away from the lake. An electric drop is centrally located in the area if needed, but there is no water service. You’ll be secluded, but not far from the many amenities of Cave Lake. You must have a minimum of 20 people in your group to rent this area. |
